Garage Propane Heaters

One of the best uses for a propane heater is for controlling the temperature in rooms that you are unable to connect to your central heat and air system. The primary area that this typically occurs in is your garage or detached workshop. Because of the way most houses are constructed, coupled with the lack of insulation present in standard garages and workshops, routing ductwork to these areas can be costly, if not impossible, and not very practical either. Garage propane heaters, however, give you an affordable solution to make your garage or workshop warm and welcoming, even in the Winter months.

What Are Garage Propane Heaters?

Garage propane heaters are self contained units that use propane to provide heat. This works using an ignition switch built into the heater which, when activated, lights the propane on fire which, in turn, heats up the burner or heating element within the unit. Garage heaters work either on the principle of radiating heat from the element into the room, or the process of using a fan to force air over the heating element and into the room.

What Is The Best Type To Choose?

The design of garage propane heater you buy should depend primarily on the environment you will be suing it in. Radiating models are better suited for small areas or garages and workshops with a more open environment. Since the radiating design puts out a higher amount of heat in a closer range, you don't necessarily have to worry about the heat being blown out of the room. These types are commonly found mounted over work spaces or installed in the area of the garage or workshop that is used most frequently. They are also ideal in industrial environments for use on loading docks. With forced air fan systems, you get the best efficiency in larger areas that are slightly more enclosed. This helps keep the warm air that is being pushed out from the system from exiting the garage before it has a chance to properly warm the area. Forced air heaters work well in garages and workshops that are enclosed or semi-enclosed since these environments will help retain the warm air being circulated more efficiently.

Regardless of which type of garage you have or what your primary reason is for needing it heated, one of the two main types of garage propane heaters will be able to satisfy all of your temperature control needs.
